How to visualise SQL indexes? | Bryden Oliver

It’s hard to understand what indexes are on SQL Databases. Find out how to visualise what’s happening so you can easily follow what your database queries are doing.

The reason that indexes are called indexes is because they are very similar to how indexes in books work. As such, a good way to understand what indexes might work well is to think of the rows of data in your table as the pages in a book. Then based on the information think about what would be the best index you might find at the end of the book to allow you to quickly answer the query.
